Q: Please describe your experience with the Kei-Ai Los Angeles Healthcare Center team.

A: The team is fantastic. They are on top of things and make my job easier as a clinician. I feel like I can easily communicate with each staff member. There is not a single person that I haven’t had a good experience with. The nursing staff on level three is always helpful, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, as they are on all the floors. The social workers are great. The administration team supports me, and I support them.

Q: How long have you been involved with Kei-Ai Los Angeles Healthcare Center?

A: I have been involved for over a year now. When I first toured the building, I didn’t feel like I was in a skilled nursing facility; I felt like I was in a hospital. The building was clean, and everyone was so kind. There are so many intricate details that the staff pays attention to, and the patient satisfaction is extremely high, which is one of the main reasons that encouraged me to get involved and be a member of the Kei-Ai team.

Q: What Kei-Ai LA projects have you been involved with during COVID-19?

A: I have seen most of their COVID patients and helped initiate vaccines. When COVID came to the country, I knew that COVID would travel through Los Angeles pretty rampantly. With the help of the team and county, we designated an entire floor to manage and treat COVID patients. This in turn helped segregate COVID from non-COVID patients, which enabled the ability to protect those who were not infected.

Many people do not understand how difficult it is to manage a hospital-sized facility that is not actually a hospital. Kei-Ai doesn’t have the luxury of a large staff as a hospital does. Throughout COVID, Kei-Ai has staffed the building well with diligent people. The nurses, ancillary staff, administration, and physicians work day in and day out and do the best that they can considering the circumstances. The impressive staff retention rate and the staff’s hard work cannot be found anywhere else.

Q: As a board member over Kei-Ai LA, what goals have you set with their team during the pandemic?

A: One of our main goals was to make sure that we didn’t return a patient back to the acute care level. We knew hospitals were overloaded. If we could do anything in-house, we did. We strived to provide impeccable patient care and reduce the mortality rate during these rough times.

Q: Are there any additional comments you would like to add?

With all of the abilities we have as clinicians, we are fortunate enough to have been in a facility that can provide, protect, and most of all care for patients with dedicated staff. Only with great leadership and diligence can a facility like Kei-Ai Los Angeles Healthcare Center be maintained. It is a pleasure and honor to be a part of this team.
