January 15, 2021—LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA—Kei-Ai Los Angeles Healthcare Center, a skilled nursing facility committed to serving the elderly community, announced on Friday, January 15, that all consenting nursing home residents and staff have received the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

When Los Angeles County began distributing the COVID-19 vaccine to skilled nursing facilities, Kei-Ai was one of the first facilities to act. The facility vaccinated over 430 consenting patients and staff within seven days of receiving the vaccine.

“Ultimately, our goal is to protect our vulnerable seniors and the incredibly hard-working essential frontline employees caring for them,” said Tanner Mitchell, Kei-Ai facility administrator.

Soon after administering the vaccine to their patients and staff, Kei-Ai learned that two assisted living facilities serving the Japanese American community did not receive the vaccine. With the support of Aspen Healthcare, Kei-Ai offered the vaccine to the essential workers at Sakura Gardens in Boyle Heights and Nikkei Senior Gardens in Arleta. Kei-Ai is proud to have assisted these facilities in their efforts to protect caregivers and essential staff from COVID-19 infection, and in turn, help to protect the vulnerable elders that they serve.

“We have been serving the Japanese American community for almost five years at Kei-Ai,” Mitchell said. “We felt it was our obligation to aid other members in the Japanese community that desperately needed the vaccine.”
